Create the things you wish existed

First of all, I was very excited when I knew that I got the offered from USM. My course is Building Surveying and it is under the School of Housing, Building and Planning. I prepared everything and booked the air ticket came to Penang, but i never expected the life of a HBP student was exhausting like this.

The first day of class, we already had the first project need to be done within 1 week. The project 1a was " Me, Myself and I". We need to sketch our own face (self-portrait) with a pencil. It's really a difficult task for me because I'm really not good in drawing. For project 1b, we need to create a Personal Logo that best reflects our personality and strengths. Through the project 1, I began to have some interest in sketching.

After submitted project 1, project 2 immediately came. Alright, now i knew that the projects will never stop until the end of this semester. Project 2a and 2b were"Natural and Man-made structures". We were required to produce a black & white sketch of a natural structure and coloured drawing of a man-made structure that can be found around USM main campus. Before I started this project, I and my roommate went around the USM campus to "search"what can we draw for this project. Then we had "explore" almost whole the campus.

After that, I still suffering for other projects. Each project had became more and more difficult. Started from project 3, we began to spent whole night in the studio. Especially for project 3b "Object Connection : A Comfortable Chair". For this project, we were in group of 4 person, we need to cooperate with each other. We discussed and done it together. No matter how the final outcome was, at least we tried our best.

Among these projects, I think the Project 6 was the most difficult task for us. We were being distributed to a group of 15 person from 7 majors in order to complete Project 6. This project ran for almost 6 weeks. We had to complete 3 tasks within 6 weeks. Through this project, I learned a lot, the spirit of comity, the ability of time management, the skill of communication even the leadership. I realize that the leadership is really important for the group work. Be a leader need to take responsible to guide every member and be patience.

Project 7 was XZbition, the theme of this year was "Floating line". Whole BS students had cooperate with each others. Although there were some quarrels, we did a good job indeed.

Lastly, Project 8 was the final project for this semester. Project 8 was "RUS 104 Night and Live Performance". Each major had to represent the specific Nusantare kingdoms, for us, we were Pagaruyung Kingdom. We discussed together and finally decided to perform the drama with traditional dance and combine with modern dance to make it more interesting. It was a amazing night! We only had less than 5 days to prepare and practice but all of us had did the good job indeed!

Finally, project 8 came to the end. That mean our studio life of first semester was over too. Our studio life had made many great and funny memories. ^.^ Really appreciate these memories with all first year students no matter from Archi, QS, CM, Planning or BT. This semester was the first and also the last opportunity for all our first year student to do the studio work together. We have to separate into design and non-design course in next semester, but i believe our friendship will last long.

LANGKAWI

When i knew that the destination of our academic trip was Pulau Langkawi, i was very excited. Because i never go there and i knew that Pulau Langkawi is a very beautiful place. It also a good opportunity for us to relax and escaped from those projects.

Wohoo~ It's "HOLIDAY"!!!
